Ref:   107fs    http://hygra.com/face/107fs

Antique Face Screen in papier mâché C.1840.

A face screen elegantly shaped and decorated, the painted floral decoration following the contours of the outline.

The flowers are beautifully painted and they are the work of an accomplished artist. They combine botanical detail with aesthetic sensitivity: there are fine lines in the leaves, subtle colouring suggesting fragility and naturalistic movement.

The back also has a finely painted small bouquet.

The handle is turned wood and gilded.

Origin: UK ;  Circa:1840  ; Materials: papier mâché and wood

Size:  Screen 28 cm wide by 19 cm; handle 23 cm long: 11 inches wide by 7.5 inches; handle 9.1 inches.

Condition:  Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition.
