The inside is lined with its original blue paper. There is lift-out
tray with mitered beveled edge some of the divisions are missing. The
layout would have been for cotton spools and sewing. The tray now has
removable pads of blue velvet making the box suitable for jewelry or
precious mementos.
I wonder if the blue of the paper and the blue of the silk were
once closer. There is a catch which enables the pad to open down.

There is a document wallet behind.
The blue paper lining is all original.

The figure of the rosewood is exceptional. The veneers would have
been saw-cut slices which were about 1mm thick.
These would then be glued to the pine structure.

The underside is covered with
velvet. This was to avoid the box scratching surfaces such as a table
top.
