Detail: the top showing the handle. This form of handle with embossed and gilded abstracted flora was typical of the
period, which drew its aesthetic inspiration from classical designs.

Lion foot, again redolent of classical forms.

The box is edged with light wood and the base is finished with a line made up of light and dark
stringing and kingwood cross banding. This is a complex composition, but it is very fine and gives the box a
tone of understated elegance.
