Description:
Ref:   150fs    http://hygra.com/face/150fs

Pair of Antique Face Screens embroidered on velvet. C.1810.

The screens are delicately embroidered to the centre with the letter " S "surrounded by an oval leafy wreath executed in minute beads.

The leafy pattern  of bead-work- is repeated on the outer outline following the contours of the shape, which is stretched over wire.

The screens are obviously meant for a specific person-a Sylvia, a Susan?- and they were probably made either by the person herself, or very likely as a gift.

This is a most unusual pair and they manifest impeccable taste in both the combination of material and design and the finesse of execution. They are elegant without being flimsy.

The handles are in turned bone.

Origin: UK ;  Circa: 1810; Materials: velvet, silk, bone, and beads

Size:  Screen 25 cm wide by 19 cm; handle  cm 17.2 long:  9.8 inches wide by 7.5 inches; handle 6.8  inches.

Condition:  Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition. Some losses. Embroidery fragile.
