Dark mahogany writing box inlaid with brass Circa 1820.
The box is veneered with  thickly cut well figured mahogany on a construction of mahogany.

 

It measures 15.8 inches wide  by 9.4 inches deep and it is  5.25 inches  high: 40 cm wide by 24 cm deep by 13 cm high.

The brass stringing with wheel pattern is a typical Regency decoration. The two wider brass straps are later.

There are compartments for pens and inks. The writing tablet is covered with a replacement embossed leather surface 
 Underneath the flaps are spaces for storing papers. The surface of the wood is unfinished ( bearing some ink staining) pointing to an early 19th century date for the box.
