Description:
WB171: Flame mahogany writing box with brass shield shape name plate,
and escutcheon, brass corners and straps opening to a fitted interior
with velvet covered writing slope, compartments for writing tools and
inkwells. Under the writing surface there are places for storing papers.
There are also secret drawers concealed behind a sprung panel released
by pulling on one of the divisions. Circa 1845.

Good over all, working lock and key; see images.

The box has a fitted interior with velvet
(replacement) covered writing slope, compartments for writing tools and inkwells.

The box has a pair of reproduction inkwells with screw
tops. The bottles are blown. There are cut facets in the shoulders.

Under the writing surface
there are places for storing papers.

The fronts of the secret
drawers are veneered with birds eye maple.
