Reference: wb 110
Description:
It is expertly painted. On the top is a bouquet of roses and anemones
the confident brush strokes depicting the texture of the blooms and the
light dancing on the petals. The top lifts and opens and is supported
on a hinged riser. The inside is painted with a bird which looks like a
partridge sitting in a basket
of carnations the whole framed by a vine with grapes. Underneath there
is a drawer for drawing implements. The quirky subject allows us a
glimpse of the personality of the first owner who either commissioned
the piece or perhaps decorated it.
A rare gem with personality, period, and style.
