Rosewood Tea Caddy Inlaid in Brass, Circa 1820.
Tea caddy veneered in particularly well figured rosewood. The inlaid brass ornament is of separate form but more flowing and expansive than earlier examples. The additional corner motif  punctuates the corners of the front panel in an unusual way.

Inside the caddy has two lids with inlaid floral star motif.

8" wide

Circa 1815-20.

The wood on the top follows the figure of the front in a particularly striking fashion.

The inlay is bold and particularly formed to follow the shape of the panels and emphasize the pyramid structure.

The inlay on the lids is complex and striking. The  original velvet is visible on the back.

Traces of the original leading are still visible.

Exceptionally detailed and strong feet for a small caddy. They retain much of their original gilding, as do the original handles.

For the historical context of this caddy read the relevant part of Antigone's Online Antique Box Book. If you click here you will go there.
We have written a highly illustrated book on Antique Boxes and Tea caddies which is being published by Schiffer Books USA. This tea caddy has been specially photographed for inclusion.
