Chinoiserie scene to the top :
many characteristics pf the genre are present. The two Oriental
figures are standing on an island in the midst of giant plants which
ignore western concepts of perspective.
The figures are dressed in Oriental robes and have pointed hats, a
feature adopted by European artists as redolent of the magic of
Cathy.
The taller figure is balancing an exotic bird on a stick. This
is a reference to the importance of birds in Chinese society, which the
painter wished to elucidate.
The Central picture is framed with floral garlands.
