Brass edged figured rosewood box with rounded brass  edges, brass escutcheon and a brass plate, having a lift out tray. The box has a document wallet with gold and blind embossing to the lid.

Origin: UK;  Circa: 1840; Materials: .

Size: 26.5 cm wide by 20 cm by 13 cm:  10.4 inches wide by  7.9  inches by 5.1  inches.

The flap on the inside top lid retains the original leather complete with fine gold embossed decoration in the neoclassical tradition. It opens down to an 'envelope'

The box has been lined with velvet making it suitable for jewelry.

 

Inside the original tray has been fitted with additional velvet pads. 

There is a small secret compartment hidden behind the velvet pad which is here seen open

The figure of the rosewood is particularly attractive.
