Walnut veneered box with intricate geometric parquetry in various woods. The box opens to a lift-out tray. The interior of the box which has been covered recently in green cotton velvet and paper.  Circa 1875

Origin: UK ;  Circa: 1875

Size: 39.5 cm wide by 11.4 cm by 10.2 cm:  15.6 inches wide by  4.5 inches by  4 inches.

Condition: good overall; repair near hinge;  working lock and key; see images.

Open view showing the interior which has been covered recently in green cotton velvet and paper.

Corner showing the Greek key pattern marquetry which frames the whole pattern. The black ebony strengthens the lines and provides a pleasing contrast to the lighter coloured woods. The box is edged in hard dark wood which frames the whole composition and in practical terms the edges of the box.
