Papier
mâché stationery box of interesting form, which takes
advantage of the special qualities of the material. It is inlaid in
mother of pearl and painted with houses seemingly built on the
side of a mountain. The color and a bare tree suggest winter. The
shape of the box is complementary to the design, in that it curves
upwards in line with the pictured landscape. A sensitive and clever
combination of form and decoration combining the two with artistic
integrity. The compartmentalized interior is lined with the original
19th Century paper.
