The front view shows two winged beasts flanking the central motif in a symmetrical fashion.
The motif in the centre is an inverted flower with a head on the top. A whimsical little note. The inspiration for this style of decoration would have been derived from illustrations, or possibly first- hand knowledge of paintings found on the walls of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

The back continues the neoclassical theme, this time interpreting fauna morphing into
flora.
Two dolphins face each other on either side of an ancient vessel, their tails
blossoming into swirling acanthus leaves.

The other side repeats the theme of the first side.

The top is framed by a diaper pattern suggestive of fish scales. The central
turned knob sits in
the middle of a symmetrical acanthus pattern, the ends of which suggest claws.
