Georgian Mahogany Brass bound Writing Box circa 1790. |
A typical Georgian writing box in
mahogany with brass corners and side handles. The drop handles point to
an early date.
The box
of a standard large size of 20.8" in length by 9.7". Circa
1790.

The writing surface velvet is a replacement.
There is a side drawer which is released by pulling the brass rod
upwards.

Inside the top part showing a compartment for papers. There is an
old repair on the flap which has been strengthened with a cleat. The
ink stains bear witness to early pencraft.

the top box is transformed into a reading stand.

The other side also has a handle. Note the stop which stops the
handle from opening too far. The box retains its well patinated
original finish.
