The box open. The velvet is a replacement but the embossed leather
            surround is original.
         There are compartments for

The interior of the box is in mahogany. The top part is more complex
than usual in that it features slots for notes etc, as well as the
pen tray and inkwells. There are two secret drawers underneath
concealed by a mahogany flap. Here the flap is in the open
            position.

The escutcheon is finely engraved, providing
      understated, subtle decoration.

The top showing the interesting figure of the wood
with its golden striations. The engraved plaque, like the escutcheon,
provides a fine subtle note to the austerity of the piece.
