Description: A very rare eighteenth century Tunbridge ware
snuff box (see Antique Boxes, Tea Caddies, and Society, 1700--1880 Antigone Clarke & Joseph O'Kelly, ISBN: 0764316885 chapter 9 and figures 334, 484,485).
The inlay is exquisitely done with the texture of the edge of the
rose buds captured with engraving and penwork. The sides are a
concession to the neoclassical tradition. The box retains the
original varnish and some of the lead lining. The bottom is also
inlaid with a fine curling wild flower.
