Description: A very rare eighteenth century Tunbridge ware snuff box (see Antique Boxes, Tea Caddies, and Society, 1700--1880

chapter 9 and figures 334, 484,485).
The inlay is exquisitely done with the texture of the edge of the rose buds captured with engraving and penwork. The sides are a concession to the neoclassical tradition. The box retains the original varnish and some of the lead lining. The bottom is also inlaid with a fine curling wild flower.

Circa: 1780-90

Materials: Harewood

Size: 3.9"across. 10cm.

Condition: Warping on top has resulted in a crack across the top. Also a piece of the banding is missing.
