Description: A tortoiseshell and silver piqué snuff box. The scene at the front is an illustration of an Aesop's fable (the fox tricking the stork into getting his head stuck in a narrow necked jar) and imbues the box with its special charm.

Circa: 1750

Materials: Tortoiseshell and silver.

Size: 2.2" across. 5.5 cm. 2.25" tall. 3.3 cm.

Condition: Wear on closing snap and a small loss and crack on shell, make it difficult to shut firmly. The back hinge has a late, not entirely sympathetic, repair. The hinge does work.
