Description: A fine snuff box in dark tortoiseshell, the light showing through when held up. Its concave form makes it a delight to hold. There is a raised pattern formed by pressing. See Antique Boxes, Tea Caddies, and Society, 1700--1880

109. Within the shapes defined by the raised lines there is symmetrically arranged fine gold piqué work in the neoclassical tradition. There is a central gold oval with finely engraved initials. (JJ?).    

Origin: English

Circa: 1800

Materials: Tortoiseshell and gold.

Size: 2.7"x 1.3". 6.7x 3.5 cm.

Condition: Slight crack on the bottom. Tiny, appr. 2ml (only seen in very close inspection) loss on front left top inside inner pattern.
