A fully fitted brass inlaid rosewood sewing box with gadrooned edges
gilt side carrying handles and gilt feet. Inside the fully fitted sewing
tray contains a set of turned ivory spools.

Circa: 1810.

Size: 23cm wide by 18cm, 14.2cm high including feet: 9.1inches
7.1 inches 5.6 inches high.
Condition: good,
working lock with replacement key.

In the upper part there is a
document wallet. In the lower a fully fitted lift-out sewing tray
complete with a set of 5 turned Ivory spools. The inside is lined
in yellow paper and water silk
|

The inlaid brass ornament is of separate form but more
flowing and expansive than earlier examples
|
The inlay is bold and particularly formed to follow
the shape of the panels and emphasize the pyramid structure.

The turned Ivory spools are also milled and a
further unusual feature is that they are the same at both ends.
