        The mother of pearl and
abalone is selected for is grain and iridescence, and inlaid in slivers
and pieces into the papier mâchè.  The work is reminiscent of
oriental work from the from the early 18th Century.
          There is a subtle overprinting
of gilding and translucent color giving a jewel like quality.

         The bridge seems to
have been built brick by brick almost showing a knowledge of building
structure. The water is depicted in gold leaf. This is possibly the
finest period of mother of pearl inlay into papier mâchè.  The quality and the type of
work point to the work of Alsager and Neville . | Please click on images to enlarge     Please click on images to enlarge
