Antique late 18th C  Rosewood veneered box  inlaid to all sides with a framing  of boxwood  lines the top inlaid with a central panel of marquetry depicting a stylized sunflower.

Description:
Antique late 18th C  Rosewood veneered box with replacement velvet lined liftout tray, inlaid to all sides with a framing  of boxwood  lines the top of book-matched  rosewood inlaid with a central panel of marquetry depicting a stylized sunflower. 

Origin: UK 

Size: 28 cm wide by 20.3cm by 11 cm:  11 inches wide by  8 inches by  4.3 inches.

Condition: Good overall, working lock (later Victorian replacement) and key. The box retains its original 18th C varnish which has a good craqueler and patina. there is a veneer crack to the top which does not effect the structure of the box and is clearly visible in the photos.

Inside the box has a replacement velvet lined liftout tray. the lid has a quilted lining which looks Victorian.

 The box retains its original 18th C varnish which has a good craqueler and patina. This image has been taken to show the craqueler.

The figure of the rosewood of the top is particularly sticking.  The symmetry of pattern is achieved  by book matching two pieces of veneer. At this date the veneers are all saw cut.
