Description:
A Victorian rosewood box the top and front having marquetry panels
depicting floral motifs and crossbanded with rosewood. the whole
box is edged with rounded ebony. The inside is lined with velvet and has
a replacement liftout tray circa 1850
Origin: UK

Size: 30.3 cm wide by 20.5 cm by 12.5 cm: 11.9 inches wide by
8.1 inches
by 4.9 inches.
Condition: good
overall working lock and key.

The box is edged with a
rounded bead of ebony. Both the front and the top have a crossbanded
with rosewood.

Detail of the inlaid marquetry escutcheon
The floral motives are executed in a contrasting light wood, probability
maple which is shaded by scorching.
