Antique Particularly Large brass edged top quality and inlaid box veneered with striated coromandel circa 1860

Description:
A particularly large brass edged  top quality,  and inlaid box veneered with striated coromandel and having inset brass carrying handles matched Bramah locks and retaining its original velvet lined liftout tray.  The box was  made by  C. Asprey of 166 Bond Street London, circa 1860.

Origin: UK 

Circa: 1860

Size: 35 cm wide by 27 cm by 22 cm:  13.8 inches wide by  10.6 inches by  8.7 inches.

Condition: good over all, some veneer cracking and rippling to the top which is not structural. I have photographed to show this clearly; working Bramah locks with replacement key.

A particularly large brass edged  top quality,  and inlaid box veneered with striated coromandel and having inset brass carrying handles matched Bramah locks and retaining its original velvet lined liftout tray. The box is veneered with beautifully figured coromandel ebony and brass bound. the working locks is Brahma. The same key opens both locks.

The  patented Brahma lock. 

To engage the key is pushed into the lock. The sprung  levers of the lock are brought to the right positions by grooves cut in the barrel of the key rather than the flag.  This results in a very neat small key.

The box retains its original liftout tray which is fitted for jewelry including special places for rings

   The box is marked with a brass plate which reads:

The  patented Brahma lock.

 The brass which is held to the box with brass pins contrasts with the dark rich color of the coromandel.
