Antique Regency box veneered with
kingwood of neoclassical form box with drawer circa 1810

Description:
A Regency kingwood veneered box of pure neoclassical
form. The gilded applied escutcheons and handle are influenced by French
work. The inside is lined with velvet pads (new) which are not glued so
as to preserve the original red paper lining. The box has a separately
lockable drawer, using the same key.
Origin: UK
Circa:1810
Size: 30.5 cm wide by 22.6 cm by 16.5cm: 12 inches wide by
8.9 inches
by 6.5 inches.
Condition: good
overall, marks consistent with age, (see images); there is a small
patch just above the drawer; working locks and key.

The tapered neoclassical form is derived from Egyptian
sarcophagus shapes.

The top has a subtle inlay in boxwood and is edged by
a framing in satinwood.
