Description:
A unusual brass edged figured rosewood box with a drawer fitted for jewelry,
an upper compartmentalized tray and a writing slope.
Origin: UK
Circa: 1815
Materials:
Size: 29.5 cm wide by 23 cm by 11.7 cm: 11.6 inches wide by 9.1 inches
by 4.6 inches.
Condition: good
overall, replacement axe-head pulls on the writing tablet and drawer;
the velvet linings are replacements; working lock and key.

There is a shallow
compartment in the lid behind the velvet pad.

The drawer and the writing
surface are secured shut by a brass pin which passes through the front.
The brass pin can be seen to the right of this image.
The drawer is lined with
replacement hand made marbled paper and velvet.

The drawer is of hand cut dovetail construction. The
cabinet makers scored lines are clearly visible.
|
The felt covered writing slope pulls from the
center of the box. This is a very unusual feature.
