Antique Box With Parquetry in Various Woods circa 1780

Description:
A box in various woods cut as very thick veneers. The woods are juxtaposed in an unusual pattern, which combines angular geometric shapes with hearts and a central  stylized flower.

Origin: English.

Circa: 1780 

Materials: Native woods and ebony.

Size: 28 cm wide by 19.6 cm by 14 cm:  11 inches wide by  7.7 inches by 4.3 inches.

Condition: Good. Replacement feet and some gadrooning on back corner (old repair, see photo). Working lock and key.

The box open. The marbled paper dates from an earlier (perhaps original?) time. The velvet lined tray is recent.
