Antique Rosewood box inlaid with mother of pearl Circa 1840.

Description:

A rosewood veneered box, inlaid with mother of pearl  and white metal in a stylized pattern,  having a replacement velvet lined liftout tray and a separately locked side drawer. 

The workmanship is of high standard; for example, the box is edged with a rounded piece of wood which finishes it elegantly and also protects it.

 
Origin: UK

Circa: 1840

Materials: Rosewood inlaid with Mother of pearl.

Size: 30.5cm wide by 22.5cm by 17cm:  12inches wide by  8.9inches by  6.7inches.

Condition: Good overall, working locks and keys. The stop hinges are a later replacement.

The edges all have rounded filets of solid rosewood.

The figure of the rosewood of the top is particularly striking. The mother of pearl inlay contrasts an emphasizes the rich color .

 The box is made with mahogany and veneered with sawcut rosewood veneers. Note the hand cut dovetail joints.
