Description:
JB511: Antique box in the sarcophagus form. The box is veneered in
figured rosewood and is inlaid in brass depicting stylized flora.
The fluid design of stylised flora is exceptionally fine. This is a
spectacular box which encapsulates the best of the Regency era. The box
stands on turned rosewood feet and has turned rosewood drop ring
handles. The centre panel of the top is framed with gadrooning as is the
pediment adding the architectural impact. The box has a lift out tray
which has been relined . Circa1825.

21.8 cm by 14 cm: 11.1 inches wide by 8.6 inches by
5.5 inches.
Condition: Good over
all working lock and key. See images

Monumental
shapes became popular during the early Regency period, as a result of
the increased awareness in Europe,
of Middle Eastern antique art and architecture. It stands on turned
feet.

The box has a lift out tray
which has been relined
There is a document wallet in
the lid. The gold embossing of the framing is particularly fine.

The tray and the bottom of the box have been relined with hand marbled
paper. further detachable velvet pads have been fitted making the box
ideal for jewelery.
