JB461:  Burr walnut veneered box circa 1870.
A box veneered in strikingly figured burr walnut. The central plaque and motif are of engraved brass. There is no further decoration, the attraction being the very pretty figure of the wood. The box has a lower drawer which opens with a spring mechanism. On the top part, the box has a later lift out tray. The box has been relined. The mirror, which clicks in place on the inside top part, is original as is its embossed leather framing. The box has small veneer repairs and some damage above the lock. Working lock and key.
