Description:
JB448: Rosewood veneered box with shell and brass inlays circa 1870:
a very pretty box, the colour of the wood livened with a motif of stylized
flora in abalone shell, mother of pearl and engraved brass. The escutcheon is designed in the same spirit with the central mother of pearl keyhole surround flanked by two elegantly curving leaves. The tray inside is added and the box has been relined. The back mirror with its gold embossed leather surround is original. Working lock and key.
