Description:
JB443: Rosewood and brass bound box circa 1820. A handsome box, veneered in saw-cut figured rosewood. It is edged in angled brass which defines its well proportioned form. A flat folding handle accents the top. The interior tray and dividing wooden sections are in mahogany and are contemporary with the box. The leather lining is original, but the velvet coverings have been added so as to protect and make the interior easier to use. These are removable. Both the working lock and the hinges are original. There is a small secret compartment.

Size: 32 cm wide by 22 cm by 13.3 cm:  12.6 inches wide by  8.7 inches by  5.2 inches.

A flat folding handle accents the top. It is engraved in copperplate writing: "John Renshaw Manchester".

 

 Corner Detail:  the box is edged in angled brass which defines its well proportioned form. The brass is held in place by small brass pins which are just visible.
