JB418: Early 19th century box veneered in exceptionally strongly figured rosewood. The box is edged in rounded brass and further enhanced with a line of brass stringing and elegant side handles. The inside facings of the box are also enhanced with fine brass stringing. The hinge is most unusual, of a rounded form reminiscent of the Scottish hinge structure. The interior retains its original leather covered tray which has had velvet covers added to the bottom of the sections. A removable velvet cover has also been made for the back lid. Working Bramah lock and key. Circa 1820.
