JB417: A very large Victorian box veneered in burr walnut of exceptionally dense figure displaying the ripples and swirls naturally occurring in parts of the log obtained from carefully coppiced wood near the stump of the tree. The box has a superior hinge which deals with the weight of its size. When open it is supported by rounded links within the hinges. The box has been fitted with two lift out trays. Tiny chips and some dents to the veneer seen when the box is closely examined. They disappear into the complex figure when overviewed. Bramah working lock and key. Circa 1860.
