Antique Regency Brass inlaid figured Rosewood box with fitted interior Circa 1815

Description:
JB408: Regency box veneered in figured rosewood and decorated with strips of brass with cut out star motifs. Symmetrical restrained decoration of this type is typical of the early part of the 19th century. The box has a lower pull-out drawer with a central brass handle. The top part interior has been separated and lined. The leather cover on the ‘envelope’ compartment on the inside top lid is original and it is embossed in a neoclassical design incorporating anthemia and palmettes. When it is folded down it reveals a mirror. The mirror is a new addition, although it sits in the alcove originally intended for a mirror. Some cracking to top veneer. The box has a working lock and key. Circa 1815.

Size: 30.4 cm wide by 22.6 cm by 15.5 cm: 11.9 inches wide by  8.9 inches by  6.1 inches.

Condition: Some cracking to top veneer. The box has a working lock and key.

The lock plate is stamped "GR" indicating that it was made in the time of George Rex.
