Description:
JB313: A figured rosewood veneered box with rounded edges, white metal (pewter) and mother of pearl accents having two liftout trays fitted for jewelry. Inside the lid is lined with ruched satin framed with gold embossed leather and opens down to  a document wallet. The lower drawer which is separately locked using the same key as the box,  is a writing box with Tyrian purple writing surface compartments for writing implements and paper. Circa 1845.

Size: 30.5 cm wide by 23 cm by 17.7 cm: 12  inches wide by  9 inches by 7 inches.

Condition: Good overall, working locks and key, see images.

 The box has two liftout trays fitted for jewelry. Inside the lid is lined with ruched satin framed with gold embossed leather and opens down to  a document wallet. 
The lower drawer which is separately locked using the same key as the box,  is a writing box

Both of the inlaid mother of pearl escutcheons are heart shaped.

 

 The edges of the box have a rounded fillet of solid rosewood. The veneer is saw cut. The top and front are decorated with lines of contrasting white metal (pewter).

Detail of one of the trays The pads of velvet are new. otherwise the tray is wholly original. there is an inlaid cast pewter bead to the division edges.

The blue paper lining is original.

 Below the trays the box also retains its original divisions and linings in silk and leather.

Inside the lid is lined with ruched satin framed with gold embossed leather and opens down to  a document wallet. 

 

The top is lined by contemporary  rushed silk framed by gilt embossed leather.
