Description:
JB312: Antique box veneered in strongly figured coromandel, on a
mahogany construction with rounded brass edging to all sides,
and working Bramah lock with key. The box is high quality, which
continues into the interior. It is lined in velvet, and embossed
leather. It has two sprung drawers which are fitted for
jewelry released by pressing buttons, Circa 1840.

Size: 31 cm wide by 23 cm by 19.6 cm: 12.2 inches wide by
9.1 inches
by 7.7 inches.
Condition: good
overall. working lock and key; there is some old veneer
cracking to the top. This does not effect the box structurally.

The box has two sprung
drawers which are fitted for jewelry. The drawers are released by
pressing buttons which are only accessible when the box is over.

When open the lid is kept
open by a special mechanism.
The hinges and the mechanism
retain their gilt finish.
|
The working lock is Brahma.
The patented Brahma lock.
To engage the key is pushed into the lock. The
sprung levers of the lock are brought to the right positions by
grooves cut in the barrel of the key rather than the flag.
