Description:
JB310:A  brass edged coromandel jewelry box, by H. Trussell of Brighton the hinged lid opening to reveal a velvet and gold embossed lined interior and two lift-out trays. The box has a working Bramah lock and key. Circa 1840. 

Origin: UK.

Circa: 1840

Size: 25.5cm wide by 20.2 cm by 13.2 cm:  10 inches wide by  8 inches by  5.2 inches.

Condition: Good overall, working Bramah lock and key, see images

The box is veneered with beautifully figured coromandel ebony and brass bound. The brass is both decorative and protective.

The box has two lift out trays. 

 

The box has an engraved plate

 H. Trussell
16 & 17 East Street Brighton.

The box is of particularly high quality all the edgings are gold embossed.

The working lock is Brahma. 

The  patented Brahma lock. 

To engage the key is pushed into the lock. The sprung  levers of the lock are brought to the right positions by grooves cut in the barrel of the key rather than the flag.

 Much of the dark maroon leather is beautifully gold tooled.

 

The silvering of the original mirror has deteriorated.
