Description:
A box
veneered in coromandel ebony, with brass edging, central inlaid
engraved initials side handles. It is of exceptionally high quality,
which continues into the interior. It is lined in velvet, embossed leather. It has a lift out tray and a lower drawer fitted
for jewelry.
The box
has a working Bramah lock.
There is an unusual mechanism to secure the drawer when the box is
locked.

14.2” x 10.2” x 7.7" tall. 36cm x 26cm 19.5cm tall.

The box
has a brass plaque of one of the finest makers of the mid
nineteenth century: F West.
Condition:
Very feint
cracks when carefully examined. Slight internal wear.

The engraved brass plate reads:

The lock plate is marked J Bramah, 124 Picadilly, and a crown. The
slight scaring is evidence of a forced entry.

There is an unusual mechanism to secure the drawer when the box is
locked.
Here the
lock has been removed. when the box is closed the lock tennon pushes
a sprung pin which secures the drawer.

The side of the lock has been cut away to accommodate the
mechanism for securing the drawer.
