Description:
A Shaped  well figured Rosewood box with Mother of Pearl and white metal inlay.

Inside there is  a velvet lined lift-out tray .

Origin: United Kingdom

Circa: 1840

Materials: Rosewood mother of pearl 

Size: 11.8 inches wide, 9 inches deep by 7 inches tall:. 30.5cm x 22.8cm 18cm tall

Condition:  overall good. working lock and key replacement velvet lined tray. The feet are replacement.

The lid part has a pocket for letters patterns and papers

The box has been relined with velvet and silk making it suitable for jewelry.

Detail of the original gold embossed leather on the lid. The pattern is classically inspired having a Greek key and leaf motif.  This and the silk brocade give a n extra quality and resonance.

 

Detail; front view.: The gadrooning which edges the top of the box gives an extra dimension.
