An Octagonal Partridge Wood veneered Tea Caddy Circa 1790.

An octagonal partridge wood veneered caddy inlaid with oval medallions decorated with characteristic floral designs in marquetry.

5.5" wide.

Last decade 18th century.

Top inlay showing gentle fading and undulation.

Front inlay of faded green and subtly  shaded maple with "engraved" lines.

Inside showing lid which is sitting on the bottom.

Signs of original and later 19th century leading.

The partridge  wood is particularly well figured.

For the historical context of this caddy read the relevant part of Antigone's Online Antique Box Book. If you click here you will go there.

We have written a highly illustrated book on Antique Boxes and Tea caddies which is being published by Schiffer Books USA. This tea caddy has been specially photographed for inclusion.
