Chinese Export Lacquer Sewing Box
decorated with scenes of oriental life circa 1850. |
A Chinese export lacquer sewing box depicting oriental scenes
within cartouches framed in stylized flora.
It measures: 14" wide by 10.4" deep and 6.5"
tall (including feet).

The design is overall attractive and decorative, but it is rubbed
in many places. There are also repairs which show as just black.
This is the fate for many lacquer boxes, as the gold tends to
rub with age and the lacquer crack and perish.
The factor of condition has been taken into consideration in
pricing this object. Fortunately the integrity of the box has
not been compromised by attempts at "refreshing" and
varnishing.
