Papier mâché writing box the top painted with a still life of fruit and game, framed  by gilded decoration. Inlays of mother of pearl are used to give a translucence to the painting. Th box is embossed to the base "JENNENS & BETTRIDGE".  The box opens to a sloping velvet covered writing surface and a lift out tray still covered in its original paper. The box has two original inkwells and a working lock and key. Circa 1830.
